Summer Pieces
Saturday, May 04, 2013
The South East has had a spell of lovely weather for the
past two weeks……a far cry from the snow we had in March! I’m also loving that
the days are so much brighter.
I’ve finally started updating my summer wardrobe; I’ve
been on the search for holiday-wear and work friendly clothes. I managed to get
a few pieces (all from H&M):
These tops are essentially basic tees; however H&M
have prettied them up by adding crepe material. The tops are light and can be
worn casually or under a suit jacket or with a pencil skirt for those warmer
days. I’m actually tempted to get the top in more colours!
These are the second pair of shorts that I have bought in
the past month. I’m going on a long haul holiday later on in the year and I
intend to wear shorts, vest tops and playsuits during my holiday (when I’m not
wearing swimwear). These shorts are supposed to be loose; however I bought a size down for a snugger fit. Without sounding vain, these shorts look great on me!
On my last holiday I found myself wearing the same pair of
shorts for most of the time; when they were in the wash I wore a longer pair
which were not that comfortable…..
I also bought this sleeveless blouse for my holiday. I don't usually wear a lot of white, but I really liked that this blouse is light, oversized and airy. It
would be great for the humid evenings while on holiday.
Writing this post has made me wish I booked my holiday
earlier!
Personal Shopping at Topshop
Sunday, March 31, 2013
Happy
Easter! I hope that you are all having a great Easter; I have spent my Easter
in spiritual celebration. For those of you who gave up chocolate or any other
sweet stuff for Lent, don’t indulge too much today!
I was invited by
Danielle of Keep It SimpElle to indulge in Personal Shopping at Topshop, Oxford
Circus. I was aware that Topshop offered personal shopping; however I don’t
usually shop there and I thought that you had to pay for the service. Curiousity got the better of me, so last weeked I tottered to Oxford Circus for my first personal shopping experience.
Prior to our appointment (there were 5 of us in total), we completed a questionnaire. We provided our basic essential details; our clothing & shoe sizes and gave an insight into our style. As you may have seen from my blog, I’m the sort of girl who likes her basics and likes her comfort!

Kenza Restaurant, City of London
Friday, March 22, 2013
I
recently went to Kenza Restaurant for a friend’s birthday. The restaurant
specialises in Middle Eastern cuisine in particular Lebanese food. As a foodie I’m
always up for eating out and trying new food. In the past year I have eaten at
quite a few restaurants serving Turkish, Afghan and Persian food. I love the
sensual spiciness of the food; it’s well seasoned and I find that I get
generous portions for my money!
The
restaurant is based underground in the City of London; you wouldn’t know it was
there as it’s in quite a secluded area (for non-city workers anyway) and
nestled between corporate companies and law firms.
The Blue Shoes Styled
Sunday, March 10, 2013

Pics taken with my camera phone - This weekend the photo quality seems to be off! |
![]() |
Black Top - H&M Blue Jumper - H&M Skinny Jeans - New Look Blue Shoes - H&M (see previous post) |
I’m
by no way a stylist; hell I pick comfort over style 85% of the time (don’t ask
about the other 15% lol)!
However
I reckon that these mid heels are suited to a simple outfit; skinny jeans,
leggings or even a sleek pencil skirt over a great flashy flowing dress. I think
that if the heel was higher, then the shoes would look great with a body con
midi dress
I
actually prefer the shoes with the black top rather than the blue jumper, just
because the shoes have an opportunity to be noticed.
What
do you think?

"Geek" Tee - Topshop |
![]() |
Checking out the "Winter Wonderland" |
Geek: (noun) an unfashionable or socially inept person/ a knowledgeable and obssessive enthusiast
It seems that everyone wants to be a 'Geek' these days - geek chic is like, sooooo cool! Gone are the days when being a Geek was a negative thing; needless to say Topshop are benefitting from now fashionable subculture(especially as this tee cost £18 -slight cringe!).
I identified myself as a Geek way before it became fashionable. Growing up, i didn't see myself as one of the "cool people". I loved learning; especially history. I bought and read books on Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt - loved mythology. I loved books; I went to the public library from a young age and enjoyed being surrounded by books. During Secondary School I was known as "The Boff"! And I really was not fashionable.......
From time to time during my teenage years, I was concerned about being a geeky person especially when it came to the opposite sex! But ultimately, having friends and family who liked and supported my intelligence, my love of reading and thirst for knowledge I was in essence fine with being a Geek.
So, while some people will be wearing this shirt as a fashion statement, I will be wearing this shirt as my personal statement x

The
Last 24 – 36 hrs have been really busy; I attended one graduation ceremony and
have another one today. I’m very happy to see my siblings graduate!
However,
prior to getting spruced up, I had a few things to do. I usually just wear the
first thing(s) I see – here was the end result:
![]() |
Jacket - Zara (as seen in this post) Bag - Zara Hoodied Jumper - Nike Jeans - New Look Boots - H&M (as seen in this post) |
I
absolutely love my Nike hoody; I’ve had it for years and I don’t think I’ll
ever get rid of it. Combined with my Zara jacket, I had no issue with the cold
especially as temperatures have dropped in the UK – it was very warm. I’m
thoroughly enjoying my studded boots, though the way I walk in them you can
hear me coming before you see me!
Studded Boots
Thursday, November 01, 2012
With
the darker, colder days firmly in place many people will now be shopping for
their winter wardrobe.
I
have actually been reviewing the clothes in my possession and a significant
amount has gone on eBay or to charity. Having said that, I then have space to
buy a few more things!
My
latest arrival (because I purchased them online a while ago) are these studded low heel boots from H&M:
![]() |
Studded Shoe Boots (not real leather) - H&M, £29.99 Can be bought here |
I
like that these boots are a simple style; I also like that it has a low heel;
very practical. My mum says I walk like a soldier (hahaha!) so I can’t really
be running about London in impractical heels.
The
stud detail is subtle; the studs make the boots stand out without being too in
my face. It’s a style that I believe I can rock well into next winter.
I
hope these boots serve me well x

By
‘It’ I mean this Crossover Jacket with Leather Lapels from Zara:
![]() |
Crossover Jacket with Leather Lapels - Zara, £79.99 |
I
tried on this jacket last Saturday and it was on my mind for 3 days before I took
the plunge and bought the jacket. This was partially influenced by the fact
that I checked the jacket online on saw that there was only size XS left!
Pros:
- It is an investment buy; such a jacket will last me at least a couple of years
- I need a short jacket as I've worn my other one to death
- It looks good on me – my mum said so!
- The leather lapels smell divine!
Cons:
- The price – at £79.99 this jacket was not cheap
- The last 24 hours have been bitterly cold; is this really a jacket to be fronting in this season?
- It’s Zara – how many people will I see rocking the same jacket? I’ve already seen one girl with this jacket and she looked about 16 -_-
So
now I’m deliberating over whether to keep this beauty…..got 25 days to make my
mind up!
I Intended to Buy a Purse
Saturday, October 06, 2012
But I bought this instead:

Pencil Skirt, with PU Waist Band - New Look, £14.99 Can be bought here |

View from the Back |
It's weird....just couple of nights ago I had a dream where I was wearing a wine coloured pencil skirt. So when I saw this just as I was about to leave the shop, I thought "get it or regret it".
Still looking for a new purse though....
The Temptation of Nike
Thursday, September 27, 2012
This is going to sound weird,
but I go to my local Nike store 3 times a week…..
I go there to work out as they
provide Nike Training Club classes as well as a yoga class. They have some
really decent clothes, not only for exercise but also for casual wear.
I’m usually a good girl – I look
but don’t touch unless I really, really, really need/want something. But when
Nike have their sales*, they put out a couple of gems and resistance becomes
futile:
![]() |
Women's Nike Free TR Fit 2 - Nike (duh!) Original Price - £80 Sale Price - £40 |
I succumbed to temptation on Monday without so much as a second thought. The trainers were originally £80
but were on sale for £40. I had been looking for a spare pair of work out
trainers and these just happened to be at a right price in the right colour. So
badly I wanted that when I was told that they had only a size 6.5 (US 9) I
still tried them on – and they actually fitted well (despite being half a size smaller)!
These trainers were meant
to be mine.
![]() |
Gold Digging T-Shirt - Nike Original Price - £16 Sale Price - £8 |
I love t-shirts in general; I felt that the above t-shirt would be welcome amongst my growing collection. This was also 50% off, so the purchase was all the more sweeter!
There are still quite few
tempting pieces to buy from Nike, especially with payday round the corner……
*Sale prices may/can vary from shop to shop
The Last Days of Summer
Sunday, September 09, 2012
With the Paralympics coming to an end and the
days starting to get shorter, Summer has signified its end. London, over the
last couple of days has seen glorious weather; I actually managed to tan a bit
during my Saturday morning workout!
![]() |
Yep, black people and other ethnic minorities are capable of tanning! |
I used the opportunity to wear this dress which I bought in May:
![]() |
Dress - New Look Sandals - ASOS (bought last year) |
I’ve already started shopping for
Autumn/Winter – bought some jumpers from H&M. but I’m hoping that the warm
weather will make a few more appearances in September before the colder weather
sets in……..
Just the Blazer
Sunday, September 02, 2012
I’ve been on a bit of a spending spree, but all in the
name of work. It was time to update my working wardrobe.
With the unpredictable weather in the UK, I’m currently
searching for a mac or lightweight coat to wear before wearing my heavy duty
coat in the winter. Meanwhile I bought this collarless blazer from H&M:
![]() |
Collarless Blazer - H&M Top - H&M; Jeans - New Look; Shoes - Topshop |
![]() |
Candid Shot! Looking to if there was a creepy crawlie on the wall! |
I actually rarely blazers and suit jackets – I find them
way too formal and too stuffy. For the longest time shoulder pads were my
enemy! However my style has somewhat evolved from my teen years, and a blazer
is ideal protective outerwear during the cooler Spring/Autumn days.
Here are the other colours available currently for sale on the
H&M website (pics were taken from here):
Butterflies at a Wedding
Sunday, August 26, 2012
Well the typical British Summer has made a
comeback – cool temperatures, rain and bits of sun here and there. The last two
days have seen some torrential showers, and I got caught up in a couple! But that
didn’t stop the wedding celebrations, especially the one I attended yesterday!
It’s beautiful thing to
witness the union of two people in love. No matter what may be going on in life
or with the weather, when there’s a wedding one can’t help but feel good. After all, besides the wedding ceremony, there’s good
food, good music and most importantly, CAKE!!
Here’s a pic of me and my
cousin in our Wedding OOTD:
My Cousin (on the left) wears: Dress - Jane Norman Shoes - Primark I wear: Dress - H&M Shoes - Office (previously shown here) Earrings - Topshop |
My dress is actually quite
casual; I bought it from H&M last year for my holiday. I really liked the
butterfly print and the neutral colours. I refused to buy a new dress for the
wedding and felt that this dress would do the job. And it did – it was
appreciated by my mum and aunts!
Africa Fashion Week(end) London 2012
Sunday, August 05, 2012
Yesterday (04.08.2012) I managed to pry myself
away from watching the epic Olympics (Team GB/Nigeria!!) long enough to go down to Spitalfields Market in East
London to attend Africa Fashion Week London 2012.
This was more of an Africa
Fashion Weekend London 2012, because
as far I was aware, it only took place over 03 and 04 August 2012.
Over the two days there was to
be a show case of about 45 designers as well as stalls where people could buy
clothes and accessories.
I only got to see one fashion
show, by House of Farrah*. Here are a few pics from the show (these were taken on my phone):
The House of Farrah had a
beautiful collection, but to be honest I was expecting garments/accessories made
from African Fabric, or that it would have African influence.
Beautiful clothes and
accessories were featured amongst several stalls, but two in particular caught
my eye:
Ella and Gabby* - their hand beaded garments really got my attention; unfortunately I did not take pictures (boo!)
Ankara Clothing* - they sell & custom design dresses and accessories; they also sell African Fabrics. I managed to take a few pics of their stall:
Ankara Clothing had really
gorgeous bags – I just had to buy something, maybe two:
![]() |
Gold patterrn has been imprinted on the fabric; if we eventually get more sun in the UK, the gold will glitter nicely! |
![]() |
The other side of the bag |
![]() |
A purse made from the same fabric |
The normal price of the bag (according to their website) is £35, and the purse is £15. However at AFWL the bag was selling for £25 and the purse £10. Even then, I managed to pay £25 for both the bag and purse.....not bad!
While my time at Spitalfields
was brief , overall, having Africa Fashion Week London is a genius idea; I hope
that it will continue to grow to more than just a weekend. I got to see African fabrics and African influence translated into beautiful designs. Remember people, African Fabric is not just a trend sported by Solange and Gwen Stefani......it's been here, is here and will always be here!
By the way, here’s a quick OOTD pic:
![]() |
Jumper - H&M Leggings - New Look Studded Flats, Earrings - Topshop Bag - Zara Watch - V&A Museum |
As you can see I was dressed
very casual, but when it comes to exhibitions, I’d rather go for casual and
comfort than fashion and discomfort!
Now back to watching the Olympics!
