I hope you had a great
weekend; unfortunately London faced a washout on Sunday – heavy rain and better
winds. Hi winter, glad to see you again. Not.
Anyhoo, yesterday (04/03/2012)
I went to the Barbican for the Urban Weekender, consisting of live and free
entertainment over 03 and 04 March 2012. For any international readers the Barbican is an entertainment
centre based in Central London – you can check their website here.
I saw the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company perform for two events – Hip Hop Shakespeare Company Live, which were
acoustic sets of singing, rap and spoken word and Opera in a Day, which was a
condensed version of A Midsummer’s Night Dream. Here are few pics that I took
on the day:

A very entertaining and talented bunch! |
I really enjoyed the events,
especially Opera in a Day. The audience was treated to a live band
collaborating with the BBC orchestra, opera singing & normal singing, rap,
acting and street dancing. Akala (a very talented performer and hip-hop artist)
also made a brief appearance as he leads the Company; however I was hoping that
he would perform as well. I had a really great time and felt that I got a nice
dose of culture – I actually feel like reading a Midsummer’s Night Dream. I
haven’t read any Shakespeare since I had to study it for GCSEs……10 years ago!
Just wished I had a better camera to take the pics - just as well my birthday is round the corner ^_^
Lovely post! Check my blog and tell me what u think! Ioana
