Kenza Restaurant, City of London

I recently went to Kenza Restaurant for a friend’s birthday. The restaurant specialises in Middle Eastern cuisine in particular Lebanese food. As a foodie I’m always up for eating out and trying new food. In the past year I have eaten at quite a few restaurants serving Turkish, Afghan and Persian food. I love the sensual spiciness of the food; it’s well seasoned and I find that I get generous portions for my money!

The restaurant is based underground in the City of London; you wouldn’t know it was there as it’s in quite a secluded area (for non-city workers anyway) and nestled between corporate companies and law firms.

The Blue Shoes Styled

Pics taken with my camera phone -
This weekend the photo quality seems to be off!

Black Top - H&M
Blue Jumper - H&M
Skinny Jeans - New Look
Blue Shoes - H&M (see previous post)

I’m by no way a stylist; hell I pick comfort over style 85% of the time (don’t ask about the other 15% lol)!

However I reckon that these mid heels are suited to a simple outfit; skinny jeans, leggings or even a sleek pencil skirt over a great flashy flowing dress. I think that if the heel was higher, then the shoes would look great with a body con midi dress

I actually prefer the shoes with the black top rather than the blue jumper, just because the shoes have an opportunity to be noticed.

What do you think?

You Are What You Wear

"Geek" Tee - Topshop

Checking out the "Winter Wonderland"

Geek: (noun) an unfashionable or socially inept person/ a knowledgeable and obssessive enthusiast

It seems that everyone wants to be a 'Geek' these days - geek chic is like, sooooo cool! Gone are the days when being a Geek was a negative thing; needless to say Topshop are benefitting from now fashionable subculture(especially as this tee cost £18 -slight cringe!).

I identified myself as a Geek way before it became fashionable. Growing up, i didn't see myself as one of the "cool people". I loved learning; especially history. I bought and read books on Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt - loved mythology. I loved books; I went to the public library from a young age and enjoyed being surrounded by books. During Secondary School I was known as "The Boff"! And I really was not fashionable.......

From time to time during my teenage years, I was concerned about being a geeky person especially when it came to the opposite sex! But ultimately, having friends and family who liked and supported my intelligence, my love of reading and thirst for knowledge I was in essence fine with being a Geek.

So, while some people will be wearing this shirt as a fashion statement, I will be wearing this shirt as my personal statement x

Running Errands

The Last 24 – 36 hrs have been really busy; I attended one graduation ceremony and have another one today. I’m very happy to see my siblings graduate!

However, prior to getting spruced up, I had a few things to do. I usually just wear the first thing(s) I see – here was the end result:

Jacket - Zara (as seen in this post)
Bag - Zara
Hoodied Jumper - Nike
Jeans - New Look
Boots - H&M (as seen in this post)

I absolutely love my Nike hoody; I’ve had it for years and I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of it. Combined with my Zara jacket, I had no issue with the cold especially as temperatures have dropped in the UK – it was very warm. I’m thoroughly enjoying my studded boots, though the way I walk in them you can hear me coming before you see me!

The Last Days of Summer

With the Paralympics coming to an end and the days starting to get shorter, Summer has signified its end. London, over the last couple of days has seen glorious weather; I actually managed to tan a bit during my Saturday morning workout!

Yep, black people and other ethnic minorities are capable of tanning!

I used the opportunity to wear this dress which I bought in May:

Dress - New Look
Sandals - ASOS (bought last year)

It's really light and floaty; perfect for a late Summer garden party, BBQ, or family visit (which was what I was doing). I felt proper girly wearing this dress....how times have changed lol!

I’ve already started shopping for Autumn/Winter – bought some jumpers from H&M. but I’m hoping that the warm weather will make a few more appearances in September before the colder weather sets in……..

Just the Blazer

I’ve been on a bit of a spending spree, but all in the name of work. It was time to update my working wardrobe.

With the unpredictable weather in the UK, I’m currently searching for a mac or lightweight coat to wear before wearing my heavy duty coat in the winter. Meanwhile I bought this collarless blazer from H&M:

Collarless Blazer - H&M
Top - H&M; Jeans - New Look; Shoes - Topshop

Candid Shot!
Looking to if there was a creepy crawlie on the wall!

I actually rarely blazers and suit jackets – I find them way too formal and too stuffy. For the longest time shoulder pads were my enemy! However my style has somewhat evolved from my teen years, and a blazer is ideal protective outerwear during the cooler Spring/Autumn days.

Here are the other colours available currently for sale on the H&M website (pics were taken from here):

Butterflies at a Wedding

Well the typical British Summer has made a comeback – cool temperatures, rain and bits of sun here and there. The last two days have seen some torrential showers, and I got caught up in a couple! But that didn’t stop the wedding celebrations, especially the one I attended yesterday!

It’s beautiful thing to witness the union of two people in love. No matter what may be going on in life or with the weather, when there’s a wedding one can’t help but feel good.  After all, besides the wedding ceremony, there’s good food, good music and most importantly, CAKE!!

Here’s a pic of me and my cousin in our Wedding OOTD:

My Cousin (on the left) wears:
Dress - Jane Norman
Shoes - Primark

I wear:
Dress - H&M
Shoes - Office (previously shown here)
Earrings - Topshop

My dress is actually quite casual; I bought it from H&M last year for my holiday. I really liked the butterfly print and the neutral colours. I refused to buy a new dress for the wedding and felt that this dress would do the job. And it did – it was appreciated by my mum and aunts!

Been Gone for a Minute

So, it’s been a while since my last post…..sorry! To be honest I did not have anything of significance to post about, especially as my eyes were glued to the Olympics. I’ve actually spent the last few days getting over the Olympic hype, but with the Paralympics due to start shortly, I’ll apologise in advance if there are a lack of posts during that period!

Once again the summer has visited London Town…the sun has been serious! I was out this morning for my Saturday NTC workout for a mere 2hrs and I already have serious tan lines on my back; and I was using sunscreen with SPF50! The rest of the weekend is set to sizzle; I’m gonna try to make the most of it. I haven’t felt heat like this since my holiday last year *sigh*!

In this sweltering heat, it seems hard for some people to be classy about what they wear. But I was gonna try:

Dress - H&M
Sandals - Asos

I bought the dress and sandals for my holiday last year; I was attracted to the floral print of the dress and the way it flowed. I was actually considering putting the dress up for auction on eBay because I thought that it would be a very long time before I would have an opportunity to wear it again. Just as well I got lazy in trying to organise my clothes for auction!

Africa Fashion Week(end) London 2012

Yesterday (04.08.2012) I managed to pry myself away from watching the epic Olympics (Team GB/Nigeria!!)  long enough to go down to Spitalfields Market in East London to attend Africa Fashion Week London 2012.

This was more of an Africa Fashion Weekend London 2012, because as far I was aware, it only took place over 03 and 04 August 2012.

Over the two days there was to be a show case of about 45 designers as well as stalls where people could buy clothes and accessories.

I only got to see one fashion show, by House of Farrah*. Here are a few pics from the show (these were taken on my phone):

The House of Farrah had a beautiful collection, but to be honest I was expecting garments/accessories made from African Fabric, or that it would have African influence.

Beautiful clothes and accessories were featured amongst several stalls, but two in particular caught my eye:

Ella and Gabby* - their hand beaded garments really got my attention; unfortunately I did not take pictures (boo!)

Ankara Clothing* - they sell & custom design dresses  and accessories; they also sell African Fabrics. I managed to take a few pics of their stall:

Ankara Clothing had really gorgeous bags – I just had to buy something, maybe two:
Gold patterrn has been imprinted on the fabric;
if we eventually get more sun in the UK, the gold will glitter nicely!

The other side of the bag

A purse made from the same fabric

The normal price of the bag (according to their website) is £35, and the purse is £15. However at AFWL the bag was selling for £25 and the purse £10. Even then, I managed to pay £25 for both the bag and purse.....not bad!

While my time at Spitalfields was brief , overall, having Africa Fashion Week London is a genius idea; I hope that it will continue to grow to more than just a weekend. I got to see African fabrics and African influence translated into beautiful designs. Remember people, African Fabric is not just a trend sported by Solange and Gwen Stefani......it's been here, is here and will always be here!

By the way, here’s a quick OOTD pic:

Jumper - H&M
Leggings - New Look
Studded Flats, Earrings - Topshop
Bag - Zara
Watch - V&A Museum
As you can see I was dressed very casual, but when it comes to exhibitions, I’d rather go for casual and comfort than fashion and discomfort!

Now back to  watching the Olympics!
