Nike Run Club - London's Fastest

13 August 2017 was all about London’s Fastest, hosted by Nike at the Tate Modern.

Nike Run Club invited runners to form their own crews and take on a 5K in Central London which started and finished in the Tate Modern.

All crews had to pass through a number of checkpoints and take on 4 challenges – sprinting through an underground carpark (Park n Ride), sprinting up a building ramp (Rapid Ramps), a 60m sprint (The Accelerator) and a sprint over the Millennium Bridge towards the finish line (Fast or Last). Failure to cross through a checkpoint or complete a challenge meant automatic qualification

There were different winning categories, such as fastest individual fe/male, fastest fe/male crew, fastest overall crew as well as the fastest crew for each of the challenges. The winners were awarded with a gift voucher to spend at Nike ranging from £150 (which would get you a pair of trainers/leggings and maybe a top) to £250 (which gets you more!).

My crew was nowhere near the fastest; but I do believe we were not the slowest. It was a great opportunity for teamwork especially as one of the crew was completely new to running; I think it would be correct to assume that such a distance was a shock to her system! I and the rest of the crew were proud that she finished the route; we took turns in power walking with her and encouraging her to jog when she could. I just hope that the experience did not put her off running for life!

For our troubles, each participant got to customise their own crew t-shirt before the event at Nike Town London and an additional t-shirt was provided at the event which represented which area of London they were from; I got an E for East London which is the best obvs!

As per usual, Nike know how to put on an event; soft drinks and hot food were waiting once the run was done. I also got to see many friendlies

It has been a while since I have done a consistent 5k and as I write this I am feeling the effects – plus it doesn’t help that I didn’t warm up or cool down properly! However I had a great time and it served as a reminder that I’m not quite done with running.

Did you attend London’s Fastest? Let me know!
