Rita's Revival

In the Autumn of 2016, I was feeling to eat at Rita's, but was gutted to find that it had closed at the end of July 2016. Since then I had been pining for their fried chicken and waffles.

In January 2017, for one weekend, Rita's Classic Menu was revived at Quilombero, based in East London (Quilombero is a new pop up restaurant founded by Gabriel Pryce and Missy Flynn - the same folks responsible for Rita's). The moment I saw that their fried chicken and waffles were going to feature as part of the classic menu, I knew I had to turn up!

For £35, a three-course meal (from a set menu) and cocktail was provided. I chose to have a Maria Verde as my cocktail. I had buffalo hot wings to start, followed by fried chicken and waffles, with honey and sausage gravy. Included were two sides, crispy friend potatoes and mustard greens. To finish off I had a slice of Oreo pie (not pictured).

The meal was amazing; no exaggeration. I felt that my taste buds had a bit of an emotional reunion when it came to eating the chicken and waffles; in my opinion, I have yet to taste better. Real hearty comfort food, especially as I had just finished my first spin class in over a year.......

While Rita's era has come to an end, if another revival was on the cards in the future, I will be there to indulge and I recommend that you attend!
