Haz Restaurant - Bishopsgate, London

I quietly celebrated my birthday a couple of weeks ago by having dinner with a few friends. I decided on Haz because I have eaten there a few times and I really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and services provided.

We ordered from the £27.95 set menu (Party Menu 2) which allowed us to sample all of the starters and desserts listed and choose a main. Our waiter allowed me the opportunity to upgrade my main meal to Iskendar, which I promptly accepted - it's my main meal when I go to Haz, plus it helped that I was the birthday girl!

A selection of starters, given the amount of guests, we were given 2 portions of every starter listed on the menu to share
I couldn't fault the food. The starters were excellent and in abundance; it was practically a feast in itself! I actually struggled to finish my main meal.....

Main Meal - Lamb Shish
Main Meal - Mixed Grill
My Main Meal - Iskendar
I highly recommend that you try the Iskender or mixed grill for your main meal; they are well cooked and quite filling. The baklava that we had for dessert was so nice; probably the best I've had.

Dessert - Baklava, apricot, vanilla ice cream
For drinks I had lemonade and an Easy Colada which was basically pineapple juice and Malibu; it was refreshing. I could have easily downed another 3 or 4......

I have to say that my one negative of the dinner was the service. It was good...when they eventually got to our table. I was one of the first to arrive; as more people arrived I expected someone to at least take drink orders. This was not the case and after about 25 minutes I actually had to wave at the waiter like I was on a street hollering for a friend. It happened on a couple of occasions, which was a bit frustrating especially as I could see others being served and attended to quite regularly. My guess is because of where we were situated in the restaurant. I had booked the private room (which was actually more a small enclave with sliding door) for my dinner and that is in quite a secluded part of the restaurant.

I have experienced great service from other Haz restaurants so I won't let this taint my overall view of the restaurant. I would actually be content with visiting the branch again because the atmosphere was really lovely; however I would seek to be in a more visible part of the restaurant.
