#WeRunLDN - Nike Women’s 10k

The longest day of the year (21 June 2015), 10,000 girls (a few guys too!), a 10k distance run.

This is the 3rd year I’ve done the Nike Women’s 10k; it’s the first time that it took place in the day. The first two women’s 10k races in London were part of the “We Own the Night” Series. This year, the Women’s Run Series has gone international, with races from San Francisco to Lima, Amsterdam to Manila and many other cities.

As usual, Nike went all in for us ladies; in the 8 weeks leading up to the race, there were special running and training sessions for women of all running abilities lead by Nike Master Trainers. The Nike Village on race day featured Birchbox, Vita Coco, Wheyhey Protein ice-cream and Freixinet. There was even a silent Disco where you could warm up before the race.

#tigersontheloose - I and some of the running members from Run Club Stratford, more affectionately known as the E20 Tigers!
On race day we were Queens of the Jungle - the name of our running crew

The weather was warmer than expected and the sun shone quite strongly that morning. Luckily most of the route was under the shade. The support was amazing; I couldn’t help but notice there were a lot of men supporting the ladies in their lives – wives, girlfriends, mothers, daughters, sisters, nieces and friends. Run Dem Crew were out in force at around the 4/9km points providing encouragement and motivation for all the runners.

I was looking for a 60 minute 10k, maybe even finishing just under 60 minutes. I finished with a time of 1:01:12……12 seconds off from a pb which I’m a bit annoyed about. However I am pleased with my overall efforts and confident of completing 10k within 60 minutes.

The goody bag was pretty sweet, with treats from Metcalfe’s skinny popcorn, Coco Vita, Pip & Nut and a beauty box from Birchbox.

The finisher’s necklace was nice too:

Maybe next year I might complete one of the women's races in another city.....
